We've been a bit busy for the last couple of weeks so I've been MIA from the blogging world. What with making new friends and jaunting off to Rome for mini holidays, there's hardly been time to blog at all, but don't worry I haven't forgotten about you. I'll start with the making friends bit, as I still have a trillion photos to go through from our trip to Rome before I can properly do a blog post to capture all its awesomeness.
Dave and I were feeling rather lonely for our friends back home and since I didn't see myself mastering the French language well enough to make friends with the locals anytime soon, I decided to explore finding some expat friends. I searched the internets for expat websites and joined a few, posting in them in the hopes of finding some other cool expats to hang out with. It was a success, and I'm glad I did it and got myself out there instead of complaining about how hard it was to meet any friends here. Despite the fact that at times it felt like I was trying to online date for friends, it wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be and we've managed to meet two really awesome couples out of it so far. It's neat to meet people who have come to Toulouse from other countries and talk about the difficulties and the good things about it over a drink. I'm really enjoying getting to know some new friends.
Last night we checked out a new pub with a few new friends. One of the girls working at the pub happened to be from London, Ontario too and went to UWO. It was crazy finding someone else from London all the way in Toulouse, what a small world! We bonded over our mutual Canadianism, which came in handy when later that night she ended up running the Sunday night bar quiz , stocked full of Canadian questions. We rocked it! Mostly due to the fact that Dave bravely won a physical competition by chugging a pitcher full of water faster than any of the other contestants (a decision he would later regret, but it definitely won him our respect haha). We would have won the quiz if not due to a misunderstanding involving a quesiton worth 12 points, but luckily our new Canadian friend realized how awesome we were at quizzes and also how cool we were too (either that or she just took pity on us) and gave us a coupon for a free pitcher of beer on our next visit! Woo Hoo! Dave's water chugging was not in vain! It was a fun night and we will definitely be returning to this pub again. Plus it had awesome Indian food, which was another bonus.
We've been having a ton of fun getting to know our new friends and exploring different watering holes in the city. Next post I promise to fill you in on our traveling adventures in Rome, which were amazing!
Until next time...
Au revoir
Hey Ellen and Dave,
ReplyDeleteWe are following your adventures closely (and jealously!!!). Sounds like a great adventure. I intend to drink one serving of every alcoholic beverage that you mention at your wedding!!!!!
J'espere que nous pourrons organiser un appel téléphonique sur Skype pour que vous puissiez voir vos deux neveux.
Now get working on translating the sentence above!!!
Love,
Dave, Erin, Tom, Jamie, and Farley
Hahaha, great. I guess we'll get our money's worth out of the open bar.
ReplyDeleteI believe your sentence means something along the lines of we should Skype soon so we can see the boys. Yay! We'd love to Skype, I've been hoping to see them. I'm on Skype most days. Email me a good time for you guys and we can arrange something. Also, I need your Skype name so we can add you, so email me that too.
Yay! Looking forward to it. Hope you, Erin, the boys, and Farley are doing well.
Miss you guys!
